Carl Spackler Rides Again

This IS Bill but not in StockholmWho was that man seen weaving his way through traffic in a golf cart – through the streets of Stockholm?! Why, just Bill Murray, that's all. Yes, it was our famous (and beloved by golfers) actor/comedian himself behind the wheel of a golf cart that was stopped by the  Stockholm police. Bill was actually on his way back to his hotel after he and some friends had dinner at the golf club hosting the Scandinavian Masters- he just got tired of waiting for the Limo, figured the hotel wasn't that far and hey, I'm Bill Murray, what can they do?

They can arrest you for suspected DUI, thats what, Mr. Murray! The article I read; Bill Murray Nabbed By Swedish Police At Wheel Of Golf Cart courtesy of CBC Arts indicated that the cops were so amazed to see a golf cart on the street that they automatically tested Mr. Murray for DWI. He refused to take a breathalyzer on the spot, because, as he explained to the Stockholm cops, "in the United States you don't have to do that." He was later given a blood test at a police station north of Stockholm. According to witnesses he was very calm and friendly, but was cracking jokes that the cops didn't seem to be getting. That's our Bill.

Fans will remember Murray as the maniacal greenskeeper Carl Spackler in the classic golf comedy, Caddyshack. Murray, of course, went on to make some wonderful movies like; Groundhog Day, (a personal favorite) and was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actor for his role in Lost In Translation, a movie that I actually liked – until the end.

Maybe the Saturday Night Live alumnus should claim in court that he was just rehearsing a scene in his new movie, Lost In Stockholm or a re-take for the climactic scene in the soon-to-be-released comedy from the Farrelly Brothers, Escape From Bushwood CC with co-star Kurt Russell as Judge "Snake" Schmails. A scene that requires a chase with golf carts and that has Murray heroically snatching a golf cart from a nose-picking Spaulding III as he slow-plays the 18th hole at Bushwood CC (and yes, Carl is STILL the asst. greens keeper at Bushwood).

The scene requires him to speed after the bad guys on a wild chase through city streets on the way to the hotel where kidnappers are holding Lacey Underall captive. An aging Ty is tapped for the 5 million dollar ransom (chump change) and he and Bill are in a race against time to save her. Think the judge will buy it?

Just what do you do for community service in Stockholm? Stay tuned for a follow up.
